Kampus cements its place among Manchester’s favourite neighbourhoods

The weather this summer may have been distinctly patchy, but Kampus – Manchester’s garden neighbourhood – has been knocking it out of the park come rain or shine.

From the get go, it was the vision of developers Capital&Centric and HBD to deliver the best rental neighbourhood in Manchester… mixing old and new architecture, tonnes of greenery and curating a community of the best indie operators around.

The buzz began as soon as the first CGIs were released, way before a spade was even in the ground. Flash forward a few years, and it’s hard to deny they’ve achieved what they set out to.

The award-winning neighbourhood, previously described as ‘bohemian-by-design’, has proved a major draw for visitors. That’s thanks in no small part to the dense, lush garden; the quality of the new foodie openings; and the stellar line-up of pop-up street parties, inclusive events and takeovers showcasing the best of Manchester’s indie scene.

PR and marketing has been pivotal. Establishing a brand new quarter of the city is no mean feat against immense competition in Manchester of new openings and developments.

But, with a mix of varied, unique and compelling media moments, the region’s journos and taste-makers have been incredibly supportive in shining a light on Kampus as it emerged from a dirty, dilapidated uni campus to THE most stunning hangout spot.

It only seems two minutes since we were releasing CGIs, trying to convince people that the dreary, anonymous site would become a real thing of beauty and a massive asset to Manchester. All credit to Capital&Centric and HBD, because it’s become all that and more.

Font Comms have gone on to secure hundreds of mentions of Kampus over the years in the media to raise awareness of the neighbourhood and drive footfall to its gardens and indie operators. There’s been a real sense of excitement and collective will to see the neighbourhood do well.

It’s been such a privilege to work with a whole range of creative people who’ve played a part in the Kampus story – and a massive shoutout the journos who’ve taken an interest and followed the journey from spades in the ground to the latest new openings this summer.
